Living in Virginia Beach means you’re always near the water. Whether you’re at the oceanfront, the Chesapeake Bay, or the Lynnhaven River, access to water is abundant in this city. The pool at Columbus Station Apartments is no exception–it’s one of our residents’ favorite amenities! We’ve compiled a list of summer essentials for the pool.
Swimwear
Bathing suit technology has come a long way over the years. Swimsuits are all about form and function, and you’ll enjoy yourself the most when you can have fun and not worry about how comfortable your swimwear is. For men, this might mean investing in hybrid swim trunks: shorts made of a quick-dry material that can go straight from the cookout to the pool. They’re styled like regular shorts but lightweight, and won’t suffer from chlorine damage like your khakis. For ladies, the possibilities are almost endless. Opt for a one-piece suit if you’re exercising in the pool or planning on a lot of activity; a two-piece suit is better for lounging and getting a little sun.
Sun Protection
Speaking of sun exposure, it’s important to take skincare seriously in the summertime. That means applying a sunscreen of SPF30+ (preferably a waterproof formula) and reapplying when you get out of the pool or every 60 minutes or so. A hat will help protect your scalp and face, and a lycra swim shirt is a great option if applying sunscreen to your back and shoulders is a hassle.
Inflatables
Inflatable toys are welcome at the Columbus Station pool, but please be mindful of others who are trying to enjoy the water. Please make sure your beach ball doesn’t bounce into someone else’s space, and don’t bring an inflatable so large that it prevents other people from swimming. And make sure to pack up everything when you leave; we don’t want to the pool deck to get cluttered with innertubes.
Kids Safety
Arm Floaties and swim vests are wonderful tools that help young swimmers build confidence in their abilities. Just remember that there is no lifeguard on duty, and children must be supervised at all times.
Snacks
The pool patio has an outdoor kitchen with a grill and food prep area. Feel free to pack some snacks, or set up for a cookout. Whatever you do, don’t forget to hydrate!
